When it comes to renting a storage unit, there are more things to think about than price and location. Here are four things that go through your storage operator's mind daily.

  1. We care about security just as much as you. Most of us have security cameras and gated access. Many facilities have a keypad where a tenant has a unique gate code. We can look at the gate logs and see who is on site and when. We offer disk locks, because they are much more secure.

  2. Insurance really is important. Many of the self storage tenant protection plans have zero deductible and have a faster claim process. Many home or renter's insurance policies do not cover self storage.

  3. We don't enjoy the auction process either. In a perfect world, we wouldn't auction at all.

  4. Storage auctions are nothing like what you see on TV. Most facilities in this day and age handle these online. The popular TV show has been known to stage units with a high money value for production. The whole purpose of doing storage auctions is to clear the storage unit so that it may be rented to a person who is willing and able to pay. Facilities are not in the business of getting rid of people's things.

Understanding the behind-the-scenes operations of your storage facility can help you make informed decisions, keep your belongings safe, and avoid unnecessary surprises. By taking advantage of security measures, ensuring proper insurance coverage, and knowing what to expect with the auction process, you'll have a smoother and more secure storage experience. Whether you're storing a few items or a whole house’s worth, these insights will ensure that your storage experience is stress-free and efficient.
